Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 13, 2026
Teach Your Kid to Read ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy and the privacy of your children. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use our website and application.
Information We Collect
We may collect the following types of information:
- Account Information: Email address and password when you create an account.
- Account Identifier: A unique user ID is generated when you create an account, used to associate your data within our system and with our third-party providers (Supabase, Sentry, RevenueCat).
- Subscription Information: On the web and Android, your payment information is entered directly on Stripe's secure checkout page. On iOS, payments are processed by Apple In-App Purchase, and we never see your card details. In both cases, we receive only your subscription status (active, canceled, etc.) and product identifier.
- Usage Data: How you interact with the app, including lessons completed, progress data, and session duration.
- Diagnostic Data: Crash reports, error logs, and app performance metrics (e.g., load times, frame rates) collected through Sentry to help us identify and fix bugs. These reports are linked to your account identifier when you are signed in.
- Contact Information: Name, email, and message content when you contact us through our website.
Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent.
- We do not collect location data, contacts, or photos from your device.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the reading education service.
- To process your subscription and payments.
- To track lesson progress and recommend the next lesson in the curriculum.
- To communicate with you about your account or respond to inquiries.
- To improve our service based on usage patterns.
COPPA Compliance
We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Our app is designed to be used by children under the supervision of a parent or guardian. Accounts are created by parents, and only parents enter information into the app. We do not knowingly collect any personal information directly from children. Any child name or progress data is provided by the parent on behalf of the child for the purpose of personalizing the child's learning experience, and is treated under the parent's account.
Account creation requires the parent to confirm they are at least 18 years of age. Subscription purchases, cancellations, plan changes, and external contact options require completing a math-based parental verification gate before proceeding.
This app is submitted to the App Store as "Made for Kids" under Apple's age-rating guidelines. All in-app purchases, account changes, and external links (support phone/text) are gated behind a parental verification challenge.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Supabase: For authentication and data storage.
- Stripe: For secure payment processing on the web and Android.
- Apple In-App Purchase: On iOS, all subscription purchases are processed through Apple's App Store. We receive only your subscription status (active, canceled, expired) and the product purchased — never your Apple ID, payment method, or billing address.
- RevenueCat: Used on iOS to manage your subscription status across devices. RevenueCat receives your account identifier and your purchase events from Apple to keep your subscription state in sync. No lesson progress, child names, or other personal content is sent to RevenueCat.
- Sentry: For crash reporting and performance monitoring. When you are signed in, your account ID is attached to crash reports to help us diagnose issues.
- Google Analytics: Used only on our public website (teachyourkidtoread.org) to understand which marketing pages visitors view. Google Analytics is not active in the iOS or Android app. No app usage data, lesson progress, or account identifier is sent to Google Analytics.
Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we permanently delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, accounting, or fraud-prevention purposes (for example, Stripe payment records are retained for up to 7 years to comply with tax and financial regulations). After account deletion, we may retain anonymized, non-identifiable usage data for analytics purposes. Crash and diagnostic data collected through Sentry is automatically purged after 90 days.
Your Rights
- Access and review the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Opt out of marketing communications at any time.
California Residents (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete your data, and the right to opt out of the sale of your information. We do not sell personal information.
European Users (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. Our legal bases for processing are: (a) performance of our contract with you (to provide the service you subscribed to), (b) your consent (for optional analytics and marketing communications, which you may withdraw at any time), and (c) our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the service. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email address below.
